OK, so it's not a shock and it's not news.  Everybody knows it and yet the western world still spends billions on them.

The more interesting qestion is "why don't they work?", and the answer (roughly speaking) is that they're horrible.
Let's face it, who is really going to be motivated by the thought of never being able to eat what you want again?  I know about this one, I spent fifteen years trying to loose weight, now I fluctuate by five or six pounds, but I'm still three stones lighter than I was then.

The key to weight loss is not about limiting your eating (very, very few people have the willpower to keep that up for long) but about actually wanting to eat the right things in the right quanities and enjoying excercise.
